ABILENE — The Sam Houston softball team loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but the rally fell short in a 7-3 loss to Abilene Christian in the series finale on Saturday.
The Bearkats fell to 11-36 on the season and 4-14 in Western Athletic Conference play.
Sam Houston jumped out to an early lead in the second inning thanks to the hot bat of freshman
Brailey Wasik. She blasted a solo home run, her third of the series, to make it 1-0.
Wasik is now just two home runs shy of tying the school record of 13 in a single season set by Hillary Adams in 2013.
The Wildcats answered with two runs in the second inning on back-back-to-back doubles and three more in the fourth to go up 5-1. ACU add a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
Sam Houston put together a rally in the top of the seventh.
Brodie Quinlan led off with a single up the middle, and
Emily Telg ripped a double down the right field line.
Sheridan Fisher followed with an RBI single to center to make it 7-2.
With two outs, Wasik drew a walk to load the bases and
Kyndal Kutac brought in a run when she was hit by a pitch. ACU was able to get out of the jam, however.
