SHSU women 6th at outdoor championships

SEATTLE — The Sam Houston women's track and field team brought home numerous medals at the 2022 WAC Outdoor Championships at the University of Washington over the weekend.
The Bearkats placed fifth in the team standings with 76 points. Stephen F. Austin won the meet with 160 points followed by Abilene Christian (143), Utah Valley (99) and Grand Canyon (98).
KeAyla Dove took the silver in the shot put with a mark of 16.69 meters. Haviland Harris also earned a silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.76, and she finished fifth in the 400 hurdles at 1:01.56.
Rajer Gurode and Anivea Gilbert put two Bearkats on the medal stand in the 100 meters. Gurode was second with a time of 11.49 and Gilbert was third at 11.65.
The 4x400-meter relay placed second. Haviland Harris, Aerial Williams, London Powell and Jackeria Woodkins turned in a time of 3:46.58.
Morgan Janda just missed the medal stand in the high jump with a height of 1.70 meters which was good enough for fourth. Tia Harry placed sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.04.
Jackeria Woodkins was fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 56.08.
Shelby Smith and Shaynea Redmond finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the long jump with marks of 5.55 and 5.53 meters. Rebeca Gonzalez came in sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:31.08
Charlee Salinas earned points in the women's hammer thanks to a seventh-place finish with a throw of 49.96. She was also sixth in the shot put with a toss of 14.58 meters ahead of teammate Lilly Rodel who was seventh at 13.72.
Rodel was sixth in the discus with a mark of 44.20 meters.
