Fritsch earns 2nd WAC weekly field honor

DENVER — Sam Houston senior Clayton Fritsch has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.
Fritsch had a recording-breaking performance in the pole vault at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster on Saturday to claim his second outdoor weekly honor of the season. He set a new meet and E.B. Cushing Stadium record with a jump of 18 feet, 10 ¼ inches.
Fritsch earned his first WAC Field Athlete of the Week honor when he turned in the best mark in in the nation this outdoor season at the 62nd annual Mt. SAC Relays at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California on April 16. His leap of 19 feet, ¼ inches also broke the WAC record and the school record which he previously set in 2019.
