HUNTSVILLE - Sam Houston's nationally-ranked bowling team made a big addition to its squad on Tuesday as head coach Brad Hagen announced the transfer of Alexia Cassman to the 2022-2023 roster.
Cassman, a transfer from Nebraska and a product of Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas, will be joining the Bearkats with three years of eligibility remaining. She joined the Huskers team as a walk-on in October of 2020 and redshirted that year before earning academic all-Big Ten honors and claiming three spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
Before her time in Lincoln, she was one of the top youth bowlers in the state of Nevada, competing at Shadow Ridge High School for four seasons. A 3-time all-state performer, Cassman was a first-team all-state pick in 2019, averaging a 190.72 and leading Shadow Ridge to a Class 4A state title. She earned a pair of top-5 finishes at the state tournament, placing fourth as a freshman and fifth as a senior.
Cassman posted a high game of 268 and a high series of 681, both set as a senior. She also earned four varsity letters tennis during high school and in the classroom was a 3-time scholar-athlete at Shadow Ridge.
"Alexia will be inserted pretty quickly here, and gives us immediate depth and versatility in the line up from the left side," Hagen said upon Cassman's transfer. "It's clear she's coming in with a mission to step up and take advantage of her new opportunity. She's hungry and knows there's a lot left in the tank, and I am certain the All-Americans we have returning will be an immediate positive influence on her, helping her commitment in the classroom and on the lanes pay off."
