gHUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston volleyball home opener marked another milestone for longtime head coach
Brenda Gray as she picked up her 750th career victory as the Bearkats swept their way past Prairie View at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
It was a textbook win for the Kats (2-2) to even their record after opening the season last weekend at the K-State Invitational. Sam Houston raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first set and never allowed Prairie View (0-4) the chance to get in the match.
Sam Houston hit .210 for the match, but held the Panthers to negative hitting as a team on the other side.
Madison Dyer continued her impressive play early in the season with a match-high 10 kills on just 17 swings, while also tallying a pair of service aces and four blocks.
Fellow freshman
Hailey Heider was right behind her with nine kills on 15 tries with only one misfire and
Hannah Baker tallied eight digs in the match, one which took less than 90 minutes to complete.
Avery Fowler led the Kats with 21 assists while
Alyssa Fielder had four blocks and four kills.
Sam Houston will be back in action next this weekend when it travels to the Gulf Coast to take part in the Islander Classic. The Kats will take on SMU and A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday before taking on Indiana on Saturday morning.
