HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston soccer team broke out offensively to topple Abilene Christian 2-0 for its first Western Athletic Conference win of the season Friday at Pritchett Field.
Kinsey Hill picked the ideal time to score her first collegiate goal to help the Bearkats improve to 2-6-2 on the season and 1-3-1 in WAC play. In the fifth minute, she came up with the ball in a scrum in front of ACU's goal and was able to poke the ball past goalkeeper Lily Foster for what would prove to be the game winner.
Kailey Pena scored her team-leading third goal of the season to give Sam Houston some breathing room in the second half.
Kennedy Baquero played the ball forward down the left sideline and Pena beat a diving Foster for a goal in the bottom right corner of the net in the 73rd minute.
The Bearkat defense did a solid job of limiting Wildcat scoring opportunities. ACU (4-4-3, 0-2-2) only had three shots on goal.
Sam Houston returns to action Sunday when the Kats host Tarleton at 1 p.m.
