ST. GEORGE, Utah — Sam Houston used a second-half surge to put away Utah Tech for a 78-53 victory at Burns Arena on Saturday night.
The Bearkats closed out the two-game Utah swing by bouncing back from a loss to Southern Utah on Thursday to improve to 13-5 overall and 3-3 in WAC play. Sam Houston torched the nets by shooting 53.6 percent from the floor and outscored the Trailblazers (9-9, 1-4) 40-18 off the bench.
Qua Grant led the Kats with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals, and
Lamar Wilkerson came off the bench to score 13 points.
Donte Powers and
Jaden Ray each scored 10 to give Sam Houston four players in double figures.
Utah Tech jumped out to an early lead, but the Bearkats came roaring back.
Kian Scroggins cut the advantage to 28-27 with a layup, and Grant gave Sam Houston its first lead when he stole the ball and Scroggins threw down a dunk with 3:40 remaining in the first half.
Powers followed with a jumper as the Kats closed the half with a 10-1 run to go into the break on top 35-29. Sam Houston put the game away by outscoring the Trailblazers 43-24 in the second half.
