Kats get three top 15 wins at tourney

ARLINGTON — The Sam Houston bowling team is in contention to move up the standings following day one of the Prairie View Invitational at the ITRC on Friday.

The Bearkats currently sit in seventh place with after going 3-2 in baker matches for a total of 4,834 pins, just 262 pins out of the top four. Vanderbilt is in first place with 5,214 pins followed by Nebraska (5,152), Stephen F. Austin (5,098), McKendree (5,096), Arkansas State (4,974) and Youngstown State (4,946).

"This field is what it is and it's a test of everything you have against a stacked field," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We had three top 15 wins, but we're still looking to make positive consistent strides forward. Were so close, but we absolutely need to be as disciplined and focused on simplicity as possible.Â

"One of the great things with this field is there isn't a lot of guessing. It's just more a less paying attention and executing."

Sam Houston opened with a loss to SFA but rebounded to topple Mount St. Mary's 1,036-925. The Kats followed that with a 982-935 victory over North Carolina A&T and a 933-930 win against Fairleigh Dickinson before falling to Vanderbilt.

The teams will play traditional competition on Saturday with the top four in total pins advancing to the championship round on Sunday.
