
Kats compete at Houston Invitational

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston track and field teams had some top finishes at the Houston Invitational on Friday at the Yeoman Field House.
Senior Cobe Graham picked up a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 17.25 meters. Sophomore Luke Thielemann was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 18.13 meters.
The women had a strong showing in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Rajer Gurode captured third with a time of 7.38 seconds just ahead of teammate and fellow sophomore Anivea Gilbert who took fourth at 7.43.
The duo carried over the momentum to the 200-meter dash. Gurode placed second with a time of 24.45, and Gilbert once again took fourth with a time of 24.47.
Rachel Maciejeski took the bronze in the pole vault with a mark of 3.55 meters.
The Bearkats ran well in the mile run. Sophomore Christian Rivera finished second with a time of 4:17.08, and senior Elijah McWilliams took fifth with a time of 4:21.05.
Freshman Christian Rohlack placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.72. Sophomore Gudisa Adnow captured sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:27.41.
Freshman Derrick Warren Jr. was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.17 meters. Freshman Kaleb Kiser placed 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 14.08 meters.
Senior Sasha Elizondo placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.45, and freshman Ami Clark was ninth with a time of 2:20.74.
Sophomore Macie Ellis finished seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:24.49. Junior Tia Harry placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.83.
The 4x400-meter relay of freshman Amaya Kennison-Jenkins, sophomore Aerial Willams, sophomore Jemia Goreer and sophomore Jackeria Woodkins placed third with a time of 3:52.13.
The distance medley team of freshmen Ellie Galan, Lauren Johansson, Ami Clark and Elizondo took fourth with a time of 12:25.0.
Bethany Kelly was ninth in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters. Freshman Jade Johnson took fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.36 meters.
Sophomore Charlee Salinas placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 14.08 meters.
