ARLINGTON — The Sam Houston bowling team remains in seventh place following day two of the Prairie View Invitational at the ITRC.
The Bearkats went 3-2 with a pair of top-15 wins to improve to 6-4 with 9,882 total pins through two days. Nebraska is in first place with 10,294 pins followed by Vanderbilt (10,204), Stephen F. Austin (9,963), McKendree (9,919), Youngstown State (9,905) and Arkansas State (9,882).
"We need to do a better job in the fresh, and we're going into Sunday with a different game plan," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We've done a good job making the best of the day as it went on and took advantage of the transition, but the fresh has been brutal for us. Whenever you feel like you have zero room to miss you have zero room to make mistakes.
"We have to change the morning mindset and do something different in the morning. A game plan is a start then it's all about execution or it's just an idea with nor purpose."
Kaia Gray bounced back from a slow start and closed the day with her best match, rolling a 243 in a 992-790 win over Prairie View to finish in 11th place with 1,046 pins. Bea Hernandez's best match was a 258 in Sam Houston's 1,076-1,028 victory over Nebraska.
The Kats also picked up a 974-932 win over Louisiana Tech.
"The win over Nebraska was much needed and a huge morale booster moving into the rest of the day," Hagen said. "To get out of the day with a couple more top 15 wins and 3-2 with this field is pretty solid."
