HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston took the first set of the night, but Liberty followed with three straight set wins of their own to take down the Bearkats 3-1 on Friday evening at Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkats (7-18 overall, 1-12 in Conference USA) used a 4-0 run to close out the first set 25-20; however, the Lady Flames pulled away late in both the second (25-21) and third (27-25) sets before clinching the match with a 25-23 victory.
Alyssa Fielder led the way with 14 kills, her second highest total of the year and the most in CUSA play. Jaylibeth Garcia-Rosa reached double figures for the first time in 2023 with 10 kills, hitting .375.
Avery Fowler finished with 21 assists while Michaela Panekova had a team-high five blocks and Hannah Baker had a match-high 22 digs.
The Kats will close its weekend series with Liberty on Saturday. First serve is set for noon on ESPN+.
