HUNTSVILLE – A season-opening home tournament, a new league and 26 total home games the Bearkat Softball Complex highlight the 2024 Bearkat Softball schedule, unveiled on Friday by head coach Garrett Valis. Â
"We are thrilled again to put together a schedule that challenges us and prepares us for a competitive Conference USA schedule," Valis said. "We believe the competition throughout the schedule we play each season is just one more reason to come compete at Sam Houston and it sets up great for all our fans who do an amazing job of supporting our program at home and on the road."Â
Season-ticket renewals are immediately available for the 2024 season by visiting GoBearkats.com/tickets or by calling the Bearkat Ticket Office at 936-294-1729. Â
Sam Houston will be making its debut in Conference USA in 2024, but will first need to navigate a rigorous non-conference schedule which begins February 9-11 at home with the Kats hosting the Bearkat Classic.Â
From there the Kats will hit the road for 12 consecutive games, including weekend trips to San Marcos and Monroe, La. for tournaments and midweek games at SFA and Texas A&M. The Kats will face Texas State, Texas Tech, Northern Colorado and Tulsa in the Texas State Tournament during the season's second weekend before battling Northwestern State, Evansville, Syracuse and ULM when it travels to the home of the Warhawks to conclude Week 3.Â
Sam Houston finally returns to its home turf on March 1 when it opens a three-game series against Abilene Christian, quickly followed by hosting Baylor in a midweek contest. CUSA finally kicks off on February 8 on the road at Louisiana Tech, opening a three-game series set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a new weekend format for SHSU with its entry to CUSA.Â
The Kats will host four weekend series within Conference USA, beginning March 15 with NM State and one week later when Liberty comes to town. Other home weekend series include Middle Tennessee (April 5-7) and the season finale vs Jax State (May 3-5).Â
Valis' team will also have road series at WKU (March 28-30), UTEP (April 12-14) and FIU (April 26-28). Â
The Kats will travel away from home three times in the final three months of the season, traveling to Lamar on March 19 and to HCU and McNeese on consecutive days on April 16 and 17. They will host a doubleheader vs Texas A&M Commerce on March 12, along with standalone games vs Texas State (March 26), Houston (April 9) and Texas A&M (April 24).Â
The Conference USA Tournament is set for May 8-11 in Las Cruces, N.M.
