Kats slide down leaderboard at Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. — The Sam Houston bowling team struggled on day two to fall off the pace at the Hawk Classic on Saturday at Millsboro Lanes.

The Bearkats slid from fifth to 12th place after going 0-5 on day two to finish with 10,235 total pins. Jacksonville State remains in first (11,463) followed by Youngstown State (11,114), Vanderbilt (11,026), Louisiana Tech (10,726), Duquense (10,641), North Carolina A&T (10,577), Delaware State (10,441), Sacred Heart (10,395), Merrimack (10,377) and Mount St. Mary's (10,370) rounding out the top 10.

"Today was as rough as it could be with unforced errors after a solid first match and a lack of focus from there out," head coach Brad Hagen said. "With this scoring pace, there's no room for mental errors and all we did was stay clouded. One more round (Sunday) to finish the pool play and two rounds of match play with the chance to give us something to build off."

Lexi Casman had a huge day for Sam Houston by placing fifth in the individual standings after knocking down 1,139 pins on Saturday. Her best game was a 268, and she finished with a 227.8 average in five matches.
