HUNTSVILLE — It took all 40 minutes, but Sam Houston was able to hold off Florida A&M for a 65-62 victory at Johnson Coliseum on Friday.
The Bearkats (4-2) held a four-point lead with a minute and a half to go when the Rattlers cut the lead to one with a 3 pointer. FAMU was forced to foul, and Kaylee Jefferson made two crucial free throws to put Sam Houston back up 65-62.
The Rattlers had one last chance to tie the game with five seconds to go. However, a 3-point attempt wasn't close at the buzzer as the Bearkats prevailed.
Four Kats scored in double digits with Kaylee Jefferson leading the way with 15 points and Sydnee Kemp right behind putting up 13 points. Rosenthal finished with 12 points while Kassidy Dixon chipped in 10 points.
The Bearkats shot 35 percent from the floor but made up the difference by getting to the free throw line. Sam Houston was 21 of 33 from the line.
