Kats travel to Dallas to face SMU

DALLAS— The Sam Houston women's basketball team will be looking to make a statement on the road when it travels to Dallas to take on SMU on Monday night at Moody Coliseum.

Sam Houston has split each of its last six games, most recently dropping a 76-65 decision on Saturday to UT Arlington. The Kats will be searching for their second road win of the year. They picked up their first road win of the year on Nov. 21 with a win at Texas State.

Three Bearkats reached double digits in scoring against the Mavs at home, led by Diana Rosenthal's led the team with 15 points and Raanee Smith put up 14.

Series vs the Mustangs
This will be the 11th all-time meeting between the Kats and the Mustangs with SMU taking the last meeting, 73-52, in Dallas on Nov. 28, 2008. Monday's contest will also be the first time Ravon Justice will face SMU as the Kats' head coach, and the first time since her time at Prairie View where her Panthers faced SMU on Nov. 11, 2016, falling 61-54 loss in Dallas.

A Look At The Season To Date
It's been a balanced offensive effort for the Kats so far this year with the team's leading scorer being Raanee Smith with an average of just 12.4 ppg and Diana Rosenthal close behind with 12.2 ppg; however, balance has been the name of the game with five different players leading the team in scoring over the last nine games.

Chair of the Boards
In addition to Smith's team-leading 12.4 points per game, the Philadelphia native has been dominating on the glass in non-conference play for Kats. Smith is leading CUSA with 9.9 rebounds per game, but is also leading the nation with 6.2 offensive rebounds per contest. Of her 89 total rebounds this year, 56 have come on the offensive glass, highlighted by 16 offensive rebounds in the Kats' win over Texas College.

Where They Rank
Smith's efforts have the Bearkats also leading the nation in offensive rebounds with an average of 20.1 per game, and leads CUSA in total rebounds with 42.3 per game. Sam Houston is fifth in the nation in turnovers forced at 24.78 per game. Individually, Kassidy Dixon (2.4) leads CUSA in steals per game and Diana Rosenthal (2.1) ranks third in CUSA, helping the Kats to 11.7 steals per game as a team, a mark that leads CUSA and ranks 25th on the national list.
