STEPHENVILLE — The Bearkats continue to be road warriors this season.
Sam Houston used clutch plays down the stretch to complete the regular season sweep of Tarleton with a 64-59 victory at Wisdom Gym on Saturday night. The Bearkats improved to 20-6 on the season and 10-4 in Western Athletic Conference play while pushing their road record to 9-5.
Donte Powers and
Cameron Huefner led the way with 20 points as they combined to knock down nine 3-pointers.
Qua Grant chipped in 10 points and
Tristan Ikpe scored six to go along with seven rebounds.
Sam Houston led by nine in the second half when
Kaosi Ezeagu connected on a hook shot to make it 38-29 a minute and a half into the period. Tarleton was able to tie the game at 46 at the 10:16 mark.
The Bearkats answered with a jumper by Powers and a layup by
Javion May off a turnover to push it back to 50-46. Powers drilled a 3 with 2:29 left in the game to put Sam Houston up 62-51.
The Texans responded with an 8-0 run, but Powers sank two free throws with six seconds left to seal the victory.
The Bearkats return to Johnson Coliseum to host California Baptist on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
