RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Sam Houston picked up a key road win in impressive fashion by coming from behind for a 66-62 victory at California Baptist on Saturday.
Madelyn Batista had another monster game for the Bearkats (10-10 overall, 7-4 WAC), posting her fourth double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Tierney Coleman led the team with 19 points, and
Chyna Allen added 13.
Sam Houston trailed 40-33 with 3:26 to go in the third quarter. Allen made a pair of free throws and Batista scored on a layup to make it a three-point game.
After the Lancers (11-11, 7-4) pushed the lead back to five,
Mikayla Eddins drilled a 3-pointer and Coleman hit a free throw and then converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Kats the lead at 43-42.
The game was back and forth the rest of the way with the lead changing hands seven times until late in the fourth quarter.
Coleman put Sam Houston up 61-57 with a layup with less than a minute left in the game. CBU had to start fouling, and
Sydnee Kemp and
Mikayla Woods combined for five free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Bearkats return home to host Grand Canyon on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
