HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston hung around with No. 9 Texas but could not scratch across any runs in a 4-0 loss at Bearkat Softball Complex on Tuesday.
In front of a sold-out crowd of 595 fans, the Longhorns used a three-run second inning to pull away from the Bearkats (9-17). Texas scored the runs on four singles off starter
Brailey Wasik.
Ellie Grill wasted no time getting the first hit for Sam Houston when she singled to lead off the bottom of the first.
Kylie Hobbs moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, but she was left stranded.
The Longhorns scored their final run with a solo home run in the fourth.
The Bearkats got a pair of singles from
Brodie Quinlan and
Elia Hebel in the bottom of the fourth but again could not get that key hit to bring a run home.
Hannah Scheaffer accounted for Sam Houston's only other hit with a single through the left side in the sixth.
The Kats open Western Athletic Conference play at home this weekend with a three-game series against Grand Canyon that begins with a doubleheader Friday at 4 p.m.
