Bowlers sit in 4th at Music City Classic

With the first day of the Music City Classic in the books, the Sam Houston Bearkats stand in fourth place.

The Kats posted a 4-1 record on the day, notching wins over No. 10 UMES, Carthage College, St. Francis and Kentucky Wesleyan.

"This is always a challenging tournament," said head coach Brad Hagen. "It's a large field with 30 teams and can be tough to navigate. We need to come back out tomorrow and have another day like this to position ourselves for the championship bracket."

The Kats finished the day with their two strongest games, knocking down 1,033 pins in a loss to La Tech and 1,047 against Kentucky Wesleyan. The Kats have a five-game average of 203.5. The hosts from Vanderbilt lead with a 217.5 average.

They will open the day on Saturday with another matchup against No. 12 La Tech, followed by matches against UAB, No. 8 Maryville, Lewis University and Wright State.
