HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston rallied to knock off Lamar 3-1 at Bearkat Softball Complex on Wednesday evening.
The Cardinals grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly following a pair of singles. Starting pitcher
Emma Guindon settled in after that and pitched six shutout innings to improve to 2-2 on the season.
The offense gave her the support she needed in fourth.
Ellie Grill singled through the left side to begin the frame and stole second base.
Brailey Wasik singled to right field to tie the game.
Kylie Hobbs walked with two outs, and
Hannah Scheaffer loaded the bases on a fielder's choice.
Jordan Peno came in to pinch hit and it paid off when she ripped a two-run single to center field.
The Bearkats (9-13) will take part in the Tulsa Tournament this weekend. Sam Houston opens with Northern Iowa on Saturday at 11 a.m.
