HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston took batting practice off New Mexico pitchers in the third and fourth innings to roll to a 17-4 victory in seven innings at Don Sanders Stadium on Saturday.
The win was the Bearkats' fifth in a row as they improved to 18-10 overall and 10-1 in Western Athletic Conference play. Sam Houston has opened league play with four consecutive series victories.
The Aggies grabbed a 3-0 lead off starter
Steven Beard in the first two innings, but the Bearkats were about to explode.
Tyler Davis, who went 4 for 4 at the plate with four RBIs, got the scoring started when he singled in the bottom of the second.
Carlos Contreras followed with a towering home run over the wall in right to cut the lead to one.
The fireworks started in the third and did not end until the fourth.

Joe Redfield walked around a single by
Justin Wishkoski to open the third frame. Davis then ripped a two-run double to left field to give Sam Houston the lead. Contreras drove in another run with a groundout, and Myles Davis followed with an RBI double to center field.
Brewster came back around to bat and laced a two-run double through the left side.
Easton Loyd capped the eight-run inning with a two-run single to make it 10-3.
Davis added an RBI single in the fourth,
Clayton Chadwick drove in a pair on a triple down the right-field line, and Brewster and Wishkoski brought home three more on a pair of singles before Davis hit his second RBI single of the inning to make it 17-3.
Beard settled in and pitched three consecutive scoreless innings to earn the win and improve to 2-2.
The Bearkats host Dallas Baptist on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
