Tatom’s walk-off 2B lifts Kats to DH sweep

HUNTSVILLE — Jake Tatom hit a two-run double in the ninth inning in game two to propel Sam Houston to a 4-3 victory over Abilene Christian at Don Sanders Stadium on Saturday.

The Bearkats (20-12, 12-2 WAC) have won five straight league series to open the season following the doubleheader sweep. Sam Houston will go for the series sweep Sunday at 1 p.m.

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Carlos Contreras pulled the Kats to within one with a solo blast over the wall in right field with two outs to get the rally going. Justin Wishkoski followed with a double, and Easton Loyd ripped a single to short that hit off the umpire enabling Wishkoski to advance to third.

Myles Jefferson was able to draw a walk to load the bases. Tatom, who came in to pinch hit and play left in the eighth, laced a ball to right center field that fell in front of a diving defender and rolled to the wall to seal the victory.

Tatom was mobbed by his teammates as he rounded second and the team continued the celebration into center field.

The Bearkats other run came in the fourth on an RBI single by Tyler Davis that tied the game at one. All three of the Wildcats' runs came on solo home runs.
