Head coach Brad Hagen and Sam Houston's nationally ranked Bearkat bowling program is proud to announce its newest member to the 2023 roster, Stephanie McCoy.
McCoy, from Lawton, Oklahoma, is the first-ever Bearkat bowler to join the program from the state of Oklahoma.
"Stephanie has been with us since January training and fully being engaged knowing the future was uncertain and even though it has taken a while to get her officially added to the roster, her spirits have been un-waivered," Hagen said. "At the end of the day we need individuals on this roster who are going to push themselves every day without reservation, all while staying focused academically as well as athletically no matter what the circumstances are.
"Stephanie has proven she can stay focused and driven which will play dividends in her future success here as a Bearkat. Even with the unknowns, Stephanie has stayed the course and has a clear understanding of what was needed of her moving forward as a future contributor, and I believe she'll be ready when her number is called with open arms."
As a former member of the Adelphi University bowling team in 2021-2022, she ranked second on the team in average at 189, was named to the all-tournament team at the Griffin Baker Classic by averaging 194.4 for the weekend. Her 48.4 Baker Double Strike percentage was the fifth highest average in the East Coast Conference last season, and she was named ECC Bowler of the Week honors the first week of March 2022.
McCoy joins the Bearkat program as a graduate of MacArthur High School where she graduated with honors. She was an academic All-American and was named to the ECC Commissioner's Honor Roll last season. She has transferred in as a double major with a 3.9 GPA from Adelphi University where she was studying environmental science and criminal justice.
McCoy will continue her education at Sam Houston as she pursues a major in criminal justice with a minor in environmental science.
