HUNTSVILLE — Hannah Baker set a new school record for digs, but Sam Houston came up short in a 3-0 loss to Floridia International on Friday evening at Johnson Coliseum.
Baker entered the match tied with Jennifer Cron at 1,639 career digs, and it did not take long for her to break it. She finished with 18 digs in the match to stand as the all-time leader at 1,657.
The first set came down to the wire with
Alyssa Fielder knocking down a kill to tie it at 23. The Kats (6-10 overall, 0-3 CUSA) got to match point on a bad set by the Panthers, but back-to-back kills and an error gave FIU the 26-24 win.
The Panthers took the second set 25-21 and wrapped up the victory with a 25-18 win the in third.
McKenzie Morvant led Sam Houston with nine kills, and Fielder finished with eight and 14 digs.
Avery Fowler had 18 assists in the match for the Bearkats.
The two teams will play again Saturday at Johnson Coliseum with first serve set for 1 p.m.
