Bearkats finish with win

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston volleyball team split its weekend series with a 3-0 sweep on Sunday against NM State at Johnson Coliseum. 

The Bearkats opened strong, taking the first set 25-21. Michaela Panekova contributed two aces in the first 10 points of the match. 

The Aggies kept things close in the second set, but the Kats held on to win 25-23. Panekova secured the set point with her third ace of the day. She then sealed the sweep in the third set with her 11th kill of the match. 

Avery Fowler recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 11 digs, while Panekova led the team with 11 kills and a season-high four blocks. 

The Bearkats now turn their attention to a weekend series at Kennesaw State, with the first serve set for 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.
