HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory over Jacksonville State on Thursday night at Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkats (12-10, 7-4 CUSA) claimed the match with set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-20 and 27-25, forcing extra points in the final set to overcome the Gamecocks.
Sam Houston took control early, leading by as many as eight points in the opening set, which they won 25-20. Lylah Washington paced the offense with six kills and added seven digs in the set. Jacksonville State responded with an 8-0 run to take the second set 25-21.
The Bearkats regrouped in the third, pulling away late to win 25-20. In a tightly contested fourth set, Sam Houston edged the Gamecocks in extras, 27-25, to clinch the match.
Sameena Burns set a team season-high with eight blocks, while Avery Fowler reached 727 assists on the season, recording 39 on the night.
Washington tallied another double-double with 17 kills and 16 digs. Alyssa Fielder added 15 kills, and McKenzie Morvant chipped in 10.
Sam Houston returns to action Friday at 2 p.m. for the final match of the series against Jacksonville State.
