EL PASO — Sam Houston is in control of its own destiny when it comes to qualifying for the Conference USA Tournament when the Bearkats hit the road to square off with UTEP on Sunday at University Field.
The Kats (7-6-2 overall) currently stand in a tie for fourth place with Middle Tennessee with 12 points at 4-3 in league play with Sam Houston holding the tiebreaker over the Blue Raiders by virtue of a 2-1 victory at Pritchett Field on Oct. 20. The top six teams advance to the CUSA tournament which will be held in Miami on Nov. 6-10, and the Bearkats can punch their ticket with a win.
Kennesaw State rounds out the postseason field if the season ended today with nine points and a 2-2-3 mark. Jax State and WKU, whom the Kats close with on Nov. 1, are on the outside looking in, sitting in seventh and eighth place with seven points.
