Three Kats named to All-CUSA teams

DALLAS — Three Sam Houston soccer stars have been selected among the top players Conference USA has to offer, the league announced on Wednesday morning.

Landri Townsend, Andrea Nugent and Indigo Sims are the three Bearkat representatives on the teams after guiding the team to a fourth-place finish in the regular season and a berth to the league's postseason tournament which begins Wednesday in Miami. Townsend was named first team; Nugent third team and Sims was tabbed to the All-Freshmen squad.

Townsend has been the driving offensive force for the Bearkats this season. The senior forward from Little Elm has a feel for the ball allows her to get into position to create her own shots or set up her teammates.

Townsend three of her team-high six goals have come in CUSA play along with two of her five assists. The team captain currently stands alone in fourth in school history with 19 career goals.

Nugent has been a key part of Sam Houston's turnaround this season. The team captain is disciplined in defending and winning balls in both one-on-one situations and transitions.

The senior defender from Victorville, California has the skills that also make her a dangerous offensive threat as she has been able to use her strength and speed to score key goals including two game winners against NM State and Louisiana Tech.

Sims has fit right in as a true freshman for the Bearkats as she has scored in multiple games. The forward from Dallas is extremely fast on the ball and can beat defenders which makes her an offensive threat every time she touches the ball.

She can create and score, and she did that after missing almost a month at the beginning of the season due to injury.
