Bearkats beat Redhawks

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston women's basketball team led wire-to-wire to move to 2-0 on the season with a 69-57 win over Seattle U on Saturday night at Johnson Coliseum. 

The Bearkats capitalized on 32 Redhawk turnovers with 28 points to remain undefeated on the young season with the win over its former WAC rival.   

Sam Houston led by as many as 17 points in the first half and limited the Redhawks to 37 percent shooting from the field. 

The Kats led 18-8 after a quarter of play before Seattle got within three points after outscoring the Bearkats in the second and third quarters, but Sam Houston ultimately pulled away. 

Kelis Grant led the Bearkats with a career-high 21 points, canning three of the Bearkats' five 3-point baskets on the night. Deborah Ogayemi filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds, and six steals while Fanta Kone dished out eight assist from her point guard spot. 

Sam Houston heads to Kansas to face the Jayhawks on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. The game will be aired on ESPN+.
