Box Score MONROE, La. — The Sam Houston softball team finished out Saturday with another win in 5-2 victory over Evansville at the Best on the Bayou Classic.
Elia Hebel put the Kats on the board with a solo shot over centerfield in the fourth inning.
The Bearkats had an explosive seventh inning, bringing home three runs to push the lead to 5-1. Jordan Peno got the energy going by scoring after the catcher dropped the ball at home plate. Haleigh Carter also came around to score on a ground out by Hebel.
The Kats got out of a late jam when Daryn Grams came in the game in relief of starting pitcher Abigail Young with the bases loaded. Grams got the hitter to foul out to Hebel to seal the victory.
Abigail Young earned her first career win at Sam Houston. She tossed 6 2/3 innings and with five strikeouts.
The Kats will close out the tournament with two more games on Sunday against Syracuse at 9 a.m. and host ULM at 2.
