COLLEGE STATION — The Sam Houston softball team made No. 21 Texas A&M work for a 7-3 victory at Davis Diamond on Tuesday evening.
After jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning thanks to a solo home run by
Kylie Hobbs to left field, the Bearkats (6-9) saw the advantage slip away when the Aggies plated five runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead.
Sam Houston wasn't going quietly.
Morgan Holliday singled through the left side to begin the fifth inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Hannah Scheaffer. Hobbs drove in her second run of the game on a single up the middle to trim the lead to 5-2.
Ellie Grill reached on a two-out error that moved Hobbs to second. Texas A&M then committed two more errors on a grounder by
Haleigh Carter, the second a throwing error that brought Hobbs around to score to make it a two-run game.
The Aggies couldn't answer in the bottom half of the inning, but the Kats never got closer. Texas A&M added a pair of runs in the sixth to lockdown the victory.
Sam Houston returns home to host Abilene Christian in a three-game series this weekend. The two teams begin with a doubleheader on Friday with the first game set for 4 p.m. The finale will be Saturday at noon.
