SMYRNA, Tenn. — The Sam Houston bowling team remains in contention following another solid day at the Music City Classic at the Smyrna Bowl on Saturday.
The Bearkats are currently in fourth place at 7-3 with 10,134 total pins. Jacksonville State is in first place with 10,421 pins followed by Youngstown State (10,282) and North Carolina A&T 10,229.
Ramita Sarntong had a solid day for Sam Houston and is second in the individual standings after knocking down 1,165 pins. Her best game was a 290 in a 1,066-881 victory over Long Island.
The Bearkats will face third-seeded North Carolina A&T in bracket play today.
"Today was certainly a day we rose to the occasion against foes we hope to see in postseason," head coach Brad Hagen said. "Anytime you can take down higher RPIs it should just build confidence as a whole which is what you want this time of the year. Stepping up to these occasion and scenarios with open arms is huge especially as we navigate items into conference.
"The main goal this weekend is to build up some momentum going into conference and most importantly conserve the mental side of things. We're super close to where we need to be, and we just need to keep finding a way to step up."
