
Kats win big in Nacogdoches

NACOGDOCHES — Sam Houston won three gold medals during the Carl Kite Invitational at Fletcher Garner Track at Homer Bryce Stadium hosted by Stephen F. Austin on April Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Benjamin Carlile took the top spot at the men's pole vault with a 5.15-meter vault for the Bearkats. Meanwhile Brian Orlando would grab another gold in the hammer throw with a 62.31-meter throw. Freshman Jeremiah Jackson shared the top spot in the high jump with a 2.07-meter jump.
The Bearkats would secure seven other medals at the meet, the men's team taking three other medals while the women's team would grab four of its own.
The women's team would get on the podium first with Bailey Cotten and Rachel Maciejeski, who would tie for second in the women's pole vault with 3.75-meter vaults. Charlee Salinas was tabbed second in the women's shot put with a 14.69-meter throw. Sam Houston also took third in the women's 4x400 meter relay with a 3:57.01 minute run
For the men's team, Wyatt Lehmann would secure the sole medal for the Kat's on the track, running the men's 10,000 meter in 32:13.23 minutes to claim the bronze medal. Rylan Olguin would also join Carlile on the podium for the men's pole vault with a 5.05-meter vault.
The Bearkats would save their best for last however, taking all three spots for the hammer throw. Luke Thielemann and Ben Ruiz would throw 59.97 meters and 55.13 meters respectively to join Orlando on the podium for the Kats.
Sam Houston will be at Wendel D. Ley Track in Houston for the J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet host by Rice April 20.
