Kats compete at CUSA Outdoor meet

EL PASO — The Sam Houston men's track team had a solid opening day at the 2024 Conference USA Outdoor Championships hosted by UTEP at Kidd Field on Friday.
The Bearkats are currently in first place with 48 total points through five events scored. The Sam Houston women are in seventh through four events.
Benjamin Carlile claimed gold in the men's pole vault with a leap of 5.23 meters, the second-best CUSA mark this season. Dylan Truss propelled Sam Houston to go 1-2 in the event, just edging out FIU's Kayden Cecil's matched, best mark of 4.98 meters by one jump.
Dominykas Cepys earned the Kats a second-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 17.09 meters.
Charlee Salinas captured the bronze with a throw of 14.58 meters in the women's shot put.
