Kats add scorer from UIW

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston men's basketball head coach Chris Mudge has added another scorer for the 2024-25 season.

Josiah Hammons, a 6-2 guard from Incarnate Word, was second on the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game. The Chicago native also led the Cardinals in 3-pointers made with 81.

"Josiah is the next in a long line of tough Chicago guys we've been lucky to coach," Mudge said. "He is a high level shot maker and averaged double digits in Division I last year, making 81 (3-pointers) at 36 percent. His playmaking and toughness will fit in immediately with our culture and style here at Sam Houston."

Hammons also ranked near the top of the Southland Conference in multiple statistical categories during league play, finishing fifth in 3-point percentage (36 percent) and second in 3-pointers made per game (2.7).

Prior to UIW, Hammons starred in junior college at Truman College during the 2022-2023 season, averaging 22 points which was fifth in scoring in NJCAA Division I. During the 2021-2022 season, he averaged 11 points per game at Mott College.

Hammons prepped at national powerhouse Curie High School in Chicago. His senior year, the Condors finished 29-2.
