
Blankenzee runner up at Netherlands championships

Former Sam Houston standout Denise Blankenzee recently defender her Netherlands national championship earlier this month.
Coming off her first-team All-American season, Blankenzee headed back home to the Netherlands to participate in the national championships. Day one consisted of an eight-game block that counted for the doubles and singles qualifying standings.Â
Blankenzee and her national partner were sitting in first place in doubles after qualifying, and Blankenzee was in first in singles. After qualifying there where an additional six games left in baker format for the top three spots which would be decided in the doubles event.Â
Denise and her partner stretched their doubles lead of 220 pins between them and second place and 282 pins on third place which locked up the doubles national title. Â
The final day started with six more individual games as Blankenzee pursued her second national title. She finished qualifying as the No. 2 seed into the step ladder single elimination final.Â
Blankenzee won the first round over the third seed and after battling the top seed, Blankenzee fell short of her repeat and finished in second. Â
Next up, she and fellow teammates will head to Wittlesheim, France for the next installment of the Women's European Championship June 4-16. Â
