DALLAS — Fresh off an upset to open league play, Sam Houston picked up its first weekly soccer award from the Conference USA office on Tuesday.

Senior Andrea Nugent was named Defender of the Week for her performance against NM State on Sept. 19 at Pritchett Field. The Bearkats rallied for a 3-2 victory with Nugent scoring the game-winning goal late in the second half.

It was the perfect time for Nugent's first career goal at Sam Houston. The Aggies were selected to finish second in the CUSA preseason poll, and the Kats were tabbed fifth.

The defender from Victorville, California, also had an assist on the first goal Sam Houston scored against NM State to finish with three points.
