ARLINGTON — The Sam Houston bowling team is in great position following day one of the Prairie View Invitational at the ITRC on Friday.

The Bearkats currently sit in second place with after going 3-2 in baker matches for a total of 5,265 pins, just 202 pins off the lead. Jacksonville State is in first place heading into the second day.

"Another solid Friday overall but in a field like we have this weekend every shot is of utmost importance," head coach Brad Hagen said. "A missed routine mark or quality first shot could result in a 30-pin swing the other direction with a blink of an eye. The field is that good, and we always want to be a part of the best fields of competition because that's who we are as competitors and what has made us who are today.Â
"Today overall was a solid day, and we need to find a way to carry it over. Keeping it simple with quality shot making and routine items are always the priority. This is a great weekend to gauge our ability but most importantly our mental strength. We can compete with the best of them, but we need to learn to keep momentum in our corner and ride it as along as possible."
Sam Houston picked up a win over Duquesne 1,021-970, defeated Youngstown State 1,141-1,040 then beat Maryville 1,081-968.Â
