Kats host Liberty in CUSA home opener

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston will look to rebound from an 0-2 start to Conference USA play on the road when it hosts Liberty and FIU this week at Johnson Coliseum.

The defending regular season champion Bearkats (7-8 overall) fell at NM State 75-71 and at UTEP 81-72 this past weekend. The Flames and Panthers are both 1-1 in league play after opening at home.

Sam Houston has not begun league action 0-2 since the 2016-17 season.

Senior Lamar Wilkerson is closing in on 1,000 points for his career. He currently sits at 948 in 78 games played which has him tied for 34th on the program's all-time scoring list with Boney Watson. He needs seven points to move past Buddy Love into 33rd.

Wilkerson has made 144 career 3-pointers and needs four to move into the top 10, and he has attempted 375 shots from behind the arc, which has him 48 attempts outside the top 10 as well.
