HUNTSVILLE - Rachelle Reed turned in a huge performance at the net, but FIU was too much on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers swept Sam Houston, 3-0, at Johnson Coliseum.
Reed had just a pair of kills, but had a hand in 12 blocks, tying for the second-most rejections in a single match in program history. It was also the most ever by a Bearkat in a 3-set match.
SHSU finished with 17 total blocks as a team, its most ever in a 3-set match in the rally-scoring era; however, FIU (10-8, 4-2 CUSA) still hit .227 as a team and put three players in double-figure kills, led by Kira Givans for the second straight match with 15 scores.
On the other side, SHSU was held to just a .045 attack percentage as a team and was led by six kills from freshman Chloe Monson.
The Bearkats will now hit the road for the next two weekends, starting next weekend with a trip to WKU. The first match in Bowling Green, Ky. is scheduled for Friday October 17th at 6 pm. It will be aired on ESPN+.
