JACKSONVILLE ALA. - The Sam Houston volleyball team jumped out to a 1-0 lead against the Jax State Gamecocks but then fell in straight sets at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Bearkats (8-14, 0-9 CUSA) took the first set 25-14 by finishing it off with a five-point scoring run. The Kats hit .211 and led the match in blocks with a total of 11.
Rachelle Reed led the Bearkats in blocks with seven. Freshman Chloe Monson led the Kats in kills, reaching double digits with 13. Alongside her, Chelsea Butler finished with 11 kills.
The Kats continue their match up against the Gamecocks in game two of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
