HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston volleyball team forced Kennesaw State to five sets but dropped the final set 15-10 at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum on Friday night.  

The Bearkats (8-16, 0-11 CUSA) took the first set 25-20 then dropped the following two sets. Sam Houston dug in and extended the match by taking the fourth set 26-24. 

The Owls were able to build an early lead in the fifth to hold on for the victory.

Chloe Monson led the Kats in kills with 19, and Lillian Hamilton joins her in the double digits with 13. Hamilton also led the team in blocks with four, and Shaelin White defended the court with 23 digs. 

The Kats continue their match up against the Owls in game two of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
