LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The Sam Houston Bearkats lost 3-1 to NM State on Saturday afternoon in the second of two matches of the weekend at the Pan American Center.
The Kats (8-9, 0-4 CUSA) dropped the first two sets before rallying to take the third (25-16), finishing it on a kill from Lauren Malone which sent them into the fourth set. However, the Aggies came back from a 19 all tie to finish it with a score of 25-21
Malone led the Kats with 11 kills and freshman Chloe Monson joined her in double digits with 10. Rochelle Reed and Chelsea Butler led the team in blocks with four. Avery Fowler led the team in assist with 28, and Shaelin White defended the Kats on the back line with 20 digs.
The Bearkats' next match up is against FIU at Johnson Coliseum on Oct. 10 at 6 pm. This match will be streamed on ESPN+.
