JONESBORO, Ark. — The Sam Houston bowling team is in 11th following day one at the Mid-Winter Invitational at the Jonesboro Bowling Center on Friday.

The Bearkats went 3-2 in baker matches to finish with 4,942 total pins. Jacksonville State is in first place (5,349) followed by Banderbilt, Youngstown State, Nebraska, Wisconsin-Whitewater, UAB, SFA, Arkansas State, Witchita State and Maryville (4,984) in the 15-team field.
"Another weekend where shot making is a premium because if not you will pay," head coach Brad Hagen said. "It's great that we're battling and our strength of schedule is a monster but we need to execute to our potential so we're not wasting energy on perception. We've proven over the spring semester we can more than compete week in and out but we also need to get beyond our shortcomings because they're too costly especially between the ears.Â
"We have a great look especially in the fresh and we need to focus on that. We make shots, we get rewarded and if not we need to mentally be ready to forgive and forget so to bounce back quicker."
Two of Sam Houston's three wins can came against No. 7 Wichita State and No. 5 Youngstown State. Â
