Kats shine at Houston meet

HOUSTON — Sam Houston had numerous athletes make it to the medal stand at the Robert Platt Invitational hosted by Houston Friday and Saturday.
The Bearkats went first and second in the 5,000-meter run. Gudisa Adnow cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 14:26.52 followed by Mario Ruiz in second at 14:34.38.
Not to be out done, Jayden Jones and Tyriq Brunn gave the Kats another gold and silver showing in the 60 meters. Jones ran it in 6.68 seconds, and Brunn was on his heels at 6.72.
Brunn was far from done. He was also second in the 200 with a time of 21.21 seconds.
The women's 4x400 relay team of Amaya Kennison-Jenkins, Kaderria Hobbs, Alyssa Jolly and Michayla Ivory rolled to a silver medal with a time of 3:52.18. The men's team of Kamari Fisher, Xavier Parker, Christian Rohlack and Caleb Anthony took the bronze with a time of 3:15.17.
Anthony had another solid showing in the 400 meters, placing fourth with a time of 48.61 seconds. He also came in second in the 600 yards with a time 1:11.51 just ahead of Rohlack in third at 1:12.30.
Kaleb Kiser claimed the bronze in the triple jump with a leap of 14.64 meters.
Aleah Washington was fifth in the 200 with a clocking of 24.91 seconds. Zerah Martinez captured a fifth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:28.70.
