FORT WORTH — Sam Houston did not get the number of wins to lead the pack at the Bulldog Classic, but the squad did knock down the most pins on Friday.
Â
The Bearkats went 2-3 on day one of competition in the field of 10 teams. Sam Houston is in first in total pins with 4,619 ahead of Tulane (4,616) which went 5-0, host Louisiana Tech (4,564), Oklahoma Christian (4,409) and Alabama State (4,349).
Â
"Execution and patience is a must this weekend especially when taking care of the items that are supposed to be routine," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We left way too much out there and simple items became more costly mistakes.Â
Â
"We have an opportunity to bounce back Saturday and get the wins on the board we need but mentally we need to be more confident in everything, pay attention to the right things, as well as keep it simple. It's cliche but it's imperative for us to do if we want to get back on track."
Â
The teams will play traditional competition on Saturday with the championship round to follow on Sunday.
