Sam Houston senior standout Lamar Wilkerson was named to one of the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District Teams, the organization announced Tuesday.
Wilkerson was one of five Conference USA student-athletes who received the honor, joining LA Tech's Daniel Batcho, UTEP's Otis Frazier III as members of the Gulf Region second team. Jax State's Jaron Pierre Jr. was selected to the Southeast Region first team, and Kennesaw State's Adrian Wooley was a second-team member of the South Atlantic Regional
Wilkerson, a two-time, first-team All-CUSA selection, ended the season as the league leader in scoring at 21.2 points per game during conference play for Sam Houston. The senior guard scored in double figures in all 32 games this season and 20 or more points in nine of the 18 league contests.
Wilkerson ranked sixth nationally in three-pointers per game (3.41) and eighth in three-point percentage (44.5). He is the first Sam Houston player to average more than 20 points in a season since the program moved up to the Division I level in 1987.
The Gulf Region first team was comprised of L.J. Cryer from Houston, VJ Edgecombe of Baylor, Tre Johnson of Texas, Chance McMillian of Texas Tech, Norchad Omier of Baylor, Zhuric Phelps of Texas A&M, J'Wan Roberts of Houston, Wade Taylor IV of Texas A&M, and JT Toppin and Darrion Williams also of Texas Tech.
