Kats begin outdoor season at Baylor

WACO — The Sam Houston track and field team put up some impressive numbers at the Clyde Hart Classic hosted by Baylor to open the outdoor season over the weekend.

The Bearkats had two of the top three five times in the women's 100-meter dash as Rajer Gurode had the fastest at 11.34 seconds. Anivea Gilbert was fourth at 11.54, but she posted the top time in the 200 at 24.01.

Alyssa Jolly had the fourth-best time in the 200 at 24.28, and Brooke Cherry was third in the 800 with a time of 2:20.44. Ami Clark paced herself to a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:39.79.

Alauna Richardson tossed the third-best discus with a mark of 41.46 meters, and Rachel Maciejeski was fourth in the pole vault at 3.70 meters.

Tyriq Brunn had the top time in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.27 seconds. Jayden Jones had the second-best time in the 200 at 20.86, and Caleb Anthony was fourth in the 400 with a time of 47.74.

The Bearkats were third and fourth in the 3,000 meters with Wyatt Lehmann running it in 9:04.58 and Noah Benn in 9:05.36. Jeremiah Cams had the third-best mark in the high jump with a height of 1.96 meters.

Nathan Williams was third in the pole vault with a leap of 4.90 meters. The second-best throw in the shot put went to John Hanson at 16.33 meters with Mateo Ortiz right behind him at 15.98.

Hanson also had the second-best mark in the discus at 48.79, and Nikos Fotinopoulos was third at 47.42.
