COLLEGE STATION — A seven-run second inning boosted No. 6 Texas A&M past Sam Houston 10-0 in five innings at Davis Diamond in midweek action on Tuesday evening.
The Bearkats (17-16) managed just one hit as Aggie starter Emily Leavitt earned the victory by tossing five shutout innings to go along with five strikeouts. Kendall Daniel took the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs in 1 1/3 innings.
Sam Houston's lone hit came in the first inning. Brodie Quinlan beat out an infield single with one out, but the Kats could not find a way to bring across a run.
Texas A&M was able to score three runs in the first on five consecutive hits to begin the game. Daniel was able to get a double play on a lineout to get out of the inning without further damage.
The Aggies used a grand slam in the second inning to pull away.
Sam Houston remains on the road to open a three-game CUSA series against NM State in Las Cruces this weekend. Game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
