HUNTSVILLE — It took 43 days to complete, but Sam Houston and Texas State played their season series to a draw on Wednesday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (18-20, 6-6 CUSA) fell 9-3 in game one, which originally began in San Marcos on Feb. 18, and won 4-0 in game two.
Game 1 (Game completed from 2/18 start)
Texas State 9, Sam Houston 3
Texas State got ahead early scoring two runners in the first inning.
Brodie Quinlan hit an RBI triple to cut the Bobcats lead to 2-1.
The Bobcats added five runs to lead 7-1 heading into the top of the fifth when the game was halted due to weather in San Marcos.
When play resumed in Huntsville on Wednesday, Bella Perez smashed a two-run home run over the center field wall to cut the Bobcat lead to 7-3.
The Bobcats added two more runs to secure the win.
Kendall Daniel received the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits and pitching 3 2/3 innings.
Game 2
Sam Houston 4, Texas State 0
The Bearkats got on the board early with an RBI single from Bella Perez who hit it up the middle. Elia Hebel scored on a wild pitch to push the lead 2-0 in the first inning.
Jenny Robison extended the Kats' lead with an RBI double down the left field line. Brodie Quinlan wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single up the middle to score the last run of the game.
Tiffany Sanchez (5-1) pitched a shutout, only allowing four hits and collecting six strikeouts.
The Bearkats will host FIU for a weekend conference series beginning Friday. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be followed via StatBroadcast.
